First Impressions

design center 8It’s easy to get so focused on what’s inside your new Fulton Home that you forget what people see first – your front door. That’s what makes your home’s first impression. Fortunately, you have so much to choose from when it comes to a front door with Fulton Homes.

When you visit the Fulton Design Center, don’t forget to stop by the front door display. No matter what style you prefer, you will find the right door for you. Start with the door itself. Take the look and style of your home into consideration. If you have chosen a traditional exterior, a contemporary door such as the one to the left in the photo above won’t be a fit. On the other hand the romance of the door to the right with its hobnail finish might be just the right choice.

Once you know the door you want, take the time to choose the hardware that will work for you. As you can see from the two doors shown above, selecting the right combination of hardware and door makes a perfect final product.

Your front door also sends a message about your taste and style even before anyone walks into your home for the first time. It’s exciting to invite family and friends to see your  new home, and part of the fun starts before the front door opens, when they walk up and see your first selection – and the statement it makes about you and your home.

Cabinets Set Tone for Kitchen

design center 4When you start planning your new Fulton Home, it may seem like the kitchen is the most challenging part of the process. But once you make a couple of choices, your other options will begin to fall into place.

The best way to attack your overall kitchen design is with your cabinet style and finish. Do you want a contemporary look? Then consider the Shaker style for your cabinetry. This sleek style, shown on the bottom middle in the photo above, works well with the sleek lines of a contemporary home.

If you prefer a more country or rustic look, why not consider a glazed finish such as the cabinet door shown on the lower right? The darker tone and contrast provided by the black glaze makes that cabinet feel more homey and inviting, a fitting style to give that farmhouse appeal.

Perhaps you want to go solidly traditional. The dark cabinet door on the upper right would work well with any traditional decor. A light and bright kitchen would work well with the middle cabinet door to the left of the photo. The good news is that the Fulton Design Center has a rich selection of choices in cabinetry, and all of them in a standard of quality designed for you to enjoy in your new kitchen for years to come.

What Makes a Neighborhood Special?

icscoccer12When you move into a new home, you choose it first because of budget, then location and layout. You may consider the reputation of the home builder. If you’re smart, you wander through other neighborhoods the builder created in the past to see how well the houses have held up over time.

You might want to see how close you are to grocery stores and restaurants and look up the quality of the school district if you have school-age children. It also pays to check out property taxes because those can vary from city to city.

But take the time also to walk through the neighborhood you’re considering. Check to see if there are any common areas. Will you have access to any parks or playgrounds in easy walking distance? How about places for kids’ sports like this soccer field? Does the community share a pool?

Remember that part of what makes a neighborhood a real community is the opportunity to meet other neighbors in common areas like these. And builders like Fulton Homes that include amenities like this are thinking about their home buyers’ lives long after the homes are sold and their profits are spent building other homes and other communities.

Energy-Star-Merkley-FamilyA new resident at Fulton Homes’ Mendocino at Ashcreek community in Queen Creek now holds the distinction of being the 10,000 SRP ENERGY STAR customer in the entire Phoenix Valley.

Fulton Homes’ representatives and Salt River Project officials were on hand to celebrate the moment with the Robert Merkley Family, who purchased the spacious Fulton home recently.

“Fulton Homes is committed to building the most energy-efficient homes for our customers,” said Fulton Homes CEO Doug Fulton. “By building ENERGY STAR certified homes, we are helping more families have the American dream of owning a home that offers improved comfort, saves money on utility bills, and is kinder to the environment. We are proud to stand with SRP in creating more energy-saving homes.”

2016 is the second consecutive year Fulton Homes has been named an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year by the Environmental Protection Agency for its efforts to bring more energy-saving homes to the market. Fulton Homes has built more than 3,000 ENERGY STAR homes since joining the program in 2009. The EPA has recognized Fulton Homes alongside some of the top companies in the country, including Pepsi, General Motors and Samsung, for being ENERGY STAR certified.

“After buying this Fulton ENERGY STAR home, I would not have another that has not been constructed to save energy,” Robert Merkley said. “We admire Fulton Homes for being conscientious and having the forethought to build with the environment in mind, and at the same time help homeowners save on utility bills.”

ENERGY STAR certified homes use substantially less energy for heating, cooling and water heating. Americans living in ENERGY STAR homes have saved an estimated $4.7 billion on their energy bills since 1995. Nearly two million American families now live in ENERGY STAR certified homes.

Fulton Hosts Annual “Stuff the Bus” Event

stuff-the-bus-2016Once again this summer Fulton Homes partnered with KEZ 99.9 for the annual Fulton Homes “Stuff the Bus” campaign. This event aids deserving families by helping to collecting school supplies for for kids who could use help getting the things they need for the upcoming school year. This year’s donation drive ran from June 6 to July 10 at Chandler Fashion Center.

“Donations to our Stuff the Bus campaign make a positive difference in the lives of these children,” said Fulton Homes CEO Doug Fulton. “We’re making sure these kids get off to a good start in the first few days of the school year.”

A full-size school bus was parked inside the Macy’s Courtyard with painted paper handprints and the name of each child in need. The handprints contain a list of items each child requires for a successful school year. Supporters donated to a specific child or made a general contribution of requested items, such as pencils, pens, notebooks, backpacks, school uniforms and shoes. Shoppers also had the option to return the handprint with school supplies to the mall’s guest services area.

The campaign benefited the Boys and Girls Club of the East Valley Compadre Branch in Chandler. At the end of the campaign thousands of backpacks and tons of supplies were handed out at a July event.

Daring Home Colors

wWarner-Groves-at-Morrison-Ranch-022Given our location in the Southwest, it’s easy to stick with earth tones for our homes. But don’t be narrow in your view of possibilities. Instead, consider adding some color to the outside of your home.

This blue option is the Evergreen Elm model at Warner Groves in Morrison Ranch. Notice that it still captures the best of the Southwest. It has stone trim on the front columns, adding a rustic look. In addition the front porch does a good job of creating shade as needed to cool the front of the house while adding a welcoming area.

But the blue is definitely daring. Contrasting darker blue trim highlights the more unusual approach to a Southwestern home. You could carry the blue into the interior or pull in other colors. It might be nice to have a blue element just as you walk in the door to make the connection. The house below shows another color option available in Warner Groves, with the Cottonwood model.

This is the second consecutive year that Fulton Homes has received this recognition, and our accomplishment will be recognized, along with all other ENERGY STAR Partners, on April 13th in Washington D.C.

This award comes in recognition of Fulton Homes:

  • Building more than 300 ENERGY STAR certified homes, with a total of over 3,000 since joining the program in 2009.
  • Launching an educational Energy Center in one of our model homes in a 600 home-site community. Visitors can learn about ENERGY STAR and EPA’s Indoor airPlus programs.

A Welcoming Way Into Your Home

Well, it’s worthwhile to take a break and look around as though you are a visitor in your own home. Here are the key areas you should check out – those places you rarely see but guests see all the time.

From your front door: Since most of us enter our homes through the garage, it’s rare that we actually walk in our own front doors. Start by standing just outside the front door and see how everything looks. Does your home give a nice first impression? Make any changes you need to make sure that it does.

Facing your kitchen: You probably tend to stand in your kitchen and face out. Take a look at how your kitchen looks from the other side. Too cluttered? Too dull? What can you change to make the most of that view?

From the back of your home facing front: This is the view you see in the photo above. What you see in this Fulton Model in Warner Groves at Morrison Ranch is there are lots of interesting things to the left and less going on to the right. But in this case artwork, built-in cabinetry and details such as the arched doorways along with the white trim against the darker walls keep things equally interesting on the right side.

Yes, it is easy to become too used to having almost every day be a sunny day. But for those people who grew up in other parts of the country, it’s important not to take our sunshine for granted.
